#1020 Long-Time Sweethearts

One of the most delightful pairs of bookends ever produced by the esteemed Armor Bronze Co., "Long-Time Sweethearts" always produces smiles. The faces of the two seniors gazing at each other just sparkle with joy. This set, in bronze-clad gray metal with a ploychrome finish is circa 1925. Each is stamped with the Armor Bronze logo and one still bears the original paper label. Dimensions:
3-1/4" w x 4-1/2" d x 7-1/4" h

#1023 "Splendor" Peacock

In a positively exquisite display of artistry, the incomparable Pompeian Bronze Co. produced this consequential and now rare set of bookends with a majestically preening peacock in a highly detailed natural scene. Each piece bears the foundry mark on the rear along with the title, "Splendor." The set, circa 1925, is done in bronze-clad gray metal with a polychrome finish. Dimensions:

#1026 Art Deco Nude Modest Maiden

These are quintessential Art Deco style bookends in bronze-clad gray metal, dubbed "Modest Maiden." An original paper label on the bottom proclaims "A product of Strikulire New York, USA." Circa 1930. Dimensions:

#1048 Shakespeare Seated

Rare, substantial and important, this depiction of the Bard at work bears not only the imprint of the artist, C.S. Allen, but the original paper label of the esteemed Armor Bronze foundry. This set is the highly-prized bronze-clad polychrome version, circa 1926 with much of the original color faded but highly visible. Dimensions:

#1049 Light of Asia

An impressive and substantial set of polychromed cast iron bookends from the celebrated Bradley & Hubbard foundry that exhibit two quotations from Sir Edwin Arnold's seminal poetic work on the tenets of Buddhism: "Let Love Through Good Deeds Show" and "Lo! Ye Shall Read It In The Sacred Books." Each piece is inscribed with the B&H hallmark on the rear and is believed to be circa 1920s. Dimensions:

#1050 Longfellow Bust

The celebrated American poet never looked more distinguished than in this strikingly detailed figural bust set into a niche from the masters at Bradley & Hubbard. Each piece has a brass plate along the front edge with the name Longfellow engraved on it. The distinctive B&H mark is stamped into the back of each of these handsome bronze-clad cast iron pieces, circa 1920. A companion set to these, of Shakespeare, is in the Smithsonian Collection. A senior citizen is caught napping in his favorite chair with his book still opened in his lap in this most charming and delightful slice of life from the acclaimed Kronheim & Oldenbusch (K&O) foundry, circa 1929. K&O are renowned for their often whimsical and colorful depictions and this set is no exception. Executed in gray metal with a golden bronze and polychrome finish, the set still bears the K&O markings on the back of each. Dimensions:

#1101 Ten Commandments - Ark

Here is a truly majestic presentation of the Ten Commandments in Hebrew seemingly carved from the rocks of Mount Sinai as interpreted by one of the major figures in early 20th century metalworking art: Louis V. Aronson. This stunning pair of rare bookends, each capped by the Star of David, is fashioned from gray metal with a glorious bronze finish. Each is marked on the rear "LV Aronson 1922." Dimensions:

#1117 Babe Ruth

These extremely rare cast iron depictions of the "Sultan of Swat" (the only such version we have ever seen) have been attributed to the celebrated Hubley foundry, but they bear no markings to confirm this. The pair is circa 1920s and has only some traces of the original polychrome finish, lending an air of aging charm to this distinguished set. Dimensions:
