The German Shepherd, often called a "Police Dog," is known as a fiercely loyal, dedicated and courageous canine. In this depiction, circa 1930, inscribed on the base, "Chief of Police," the dog sports a lawman's five-pointed star on his neck collar as he sits awaiting his next assignment. This is a highly unusual set of vintage Israeli-made bookends and the Five Books of Moses (the Hebrew Bible), circa 1965, the one made especially for the other. The bookends are brass with a brilliant polychrome finish and are stamped Made in Israel by Ahada. The books, published by Sinai Publishing and printed in Israel by Blumenthal's Printing Press, each contain the Bible text in Hebrew and English, and in a concluding section, the Haftorah pertaining to that Bible text.
